Most Common Garage Door Repairs
If your garage door isn't working quite right, it can be worrisome thinking that you might have to replace the entire door. However, many garage door problems can be fixed with a simple repair. Before you panic and decide that a new garage door opener is going to destroy your family budget, it's a good idea to call a good garage door contractor. You may very well be pleasantly surprised.
Common garage door problems and their fixes
1. Your garage door makes a lot of noise when opening and closing. Loud noises from your garage door are likely a sign that the tracks need to be cleaned and lubricated. A good spray with WD-40 or a similar lubricant can often fix the problem. If not, contact your garage door specialist for an evaluation.
2. Your garage door won't open or close when you push the remote button. If your door doesn't respond to your commands, it can be a sign of a number of issues. You may have an issue with the power supply leading to your garage door opener. It may have blown a fuse or tripped a circuit breaker. If your door has been hung or repaired recently, it could also be that the door was hung unevenly and needs to be leveled.
3. Your garage door jerks or shimmies when it opens and closes. A garage door that shakes and wobbles when it opens can be a sign of faulty springs. Springs keep the tension in the door even as it opens and closes and when theses fail, your door will have a tendency to shake. This, too, is an easy and inexpensive repair.
4. Your door won't close all of the way or reverses immediately upon closing. If your door won't go all the way to the floor or if it immediately turns around an opens again, this is a sign that the ground sensor or the close limit switch needs to be adjusted.
While not all garage door problems can be easily repaired, many can. If you're door wobbles, makes a lot of noise or stops just short of the ground when it closes, you likely have an easy repair. If your door isn't working at all, it could also be that you only need new batteries or a new fuse.
